oresama teacher collaboration cafe review

during my trip to japan, i was lucky enough to visit the oresama teacher cafe! oresama teacher has hands-down been my favorite manga since i was a teen so i feel so incredibly grateful that the cafe ran while i was there.

the cafe was held at my charaful cafe, a small underground venue. there was a small waiting area that had life-sized standees and framed photos of various color cover pages. i checked in with the host and sat inside, where there were a few other guests. the walls were covered in panels with oresama teacher artwork, most notably these panels of the new collaboration artwork.

buying merch and ordering food took place through the same ipad interface. i ordered takaomi’s coffee jelly cola and okegawa’s nekomata parfait. they both tasted bad.

i don’t like coffee jelly to begin with, but i just got it because i thought 900 jpy was too much to spend on kosaka’s very ordinary black tea made according to the manual
 but i think i would have enjoyed that much more instead


the parfait was mostly egg custard and whipped cream. to be honest, having been to like 5+ japanese collab cafes at this point (and a maid cafe), it’s definitely something you should not get your hopes up for food-wise, but this one was the worst.

none of the food in the 2nd half of the event interested me so i skipped out, but i really wanted to try the super bun pancakes from the 1st half.

each order over a certain amount came with a coaster-style bromide and if you spent a specific amount on merch you’d get a polaroid-style bromide as well.

next to the wall panels of the new artwork was a board featuring drawings and messages from cafe visitors. i drew takaomi because i would not expect the cafe staff to know who kawauchi is.

beside this were a few display cabinets featuring all of the new merchandise!

i bought the clearfile and letter set as well as a blindbox badge, which turned out to be the secret holo super bun.

the large majority of the other merchandise was blindbox which i felt disappointed by. i don't think we need more non-blindbox merch but that we don't need blind in general. oresama teacher mercari is still reeling from the effects of the lottery that released hundreds of daikichi goto bromides into the world and i'm saying this as someone who bought one.

a lot of the merchandise also just reused existing art which made it extra hard to justify trying to get the characters i wanted... which was basically just takaomi i don't know when i became so saekipilled.

overall while i didn’t care for the drinks, i loved the experience of visiting oresama teacher cafe. it really was sooooo special and amazing to be able to spend a whole hour in a space dedicated to my favorite manga that’s been such a massive influence on my humor for over 10 years—especially since the collab was held at such a random time years after the manga ended!

i was just so giddy and excited the whole time and i am so very very grateful to have been able to visit. I LOVE ORESAMA TEACHER FOREVER!!!

(the fact that i went to DGS cafe the next day and saw sideM concert three days after is also fucking awesome.)
